A Day in the Inspired Life: Joy from L.A.

Do you ever stop to think about how much you swipe your card?  What if every single swipe brought 100% more good into the world, for free?  You buy your morning coffee, we make a donation to a classroom in need of supplies. You grab drinks with a friend, we give our own money (never yours) to help people experiencing homelessness stay warm this winter. That’s the optimized Inspired lifestyle: help others for free, every time you spend. And to show you just how often that is, we’re having Inspired members share their “day in the life” of living, giving, and feeling amazing: no compromises.

Today we have Joy, one of our favorite Inspired members.  Joy lives in L.A., and works semi-remotely (a few days at WeWork per week). Here’s how she spends – and gets inspired – everyday:

6:30 a.m.

Awake and out the door! I am such a nut for mornings. Plus I am training for a half marathon, so I have to get my run in before I head to the office. (Which in my case is something different everyday: a coffee shop, my dining room table, a hot desk at WeWork, you name it!)

9:00 a.m.

Back from my run, getting settled in for the work day after showering and making myself an egg and some toast to fuel up for the morning. Today I think I will walk to a coffee shop and work from there. 🙂 So decaf Americano with oat milk for me! (I gave up caffeine about a year ago and I feel so much better – but I can’t kick the morning cup o’ joe ritual.) $5.00 after suggested tip

11:30 a.m.

Meet up with a friend for lunch on my lunch break! (The beauty of working remote!) We decide we want something cheap, fast, and healthy, so Chipotle it is! $9.73 ‘cause I get the veggie bowl, but gotta add that guac and chips!

12:30 p.m.

Back to work! Today I am researching photographers around the LA area. So I spend time both reaching out to connections and searching for new undiscovered talent who might be able to help with some marketing campaigns.

3:00 p.m.

A quick second coffee for an afternoon pick-me-up before jumping back into working on some creative brainstorming and touching base with some colleagues on a Slack call. I run and grab a black iced coffee this time. $3.00 even!

5:30 p.m.

Wrap up the work day and off to Happy Hour with a friend who I haven’t seen in ages. We were roommates when we studied abroad in Italy when we were 20 years old. So of course, we meet at a Neapolitan-style pizzeria for some bruschetta and a couple glasses of wine. We split the bill and head home. $25.00 each (gotta love those happy hour prices!)

7:00 p.m.

It’s movies on the beach in Long Beach and they’re playing the Sandlot this week, so obviously I have to go. I meet up with a couple other friends and we all bring things to make a motley assortment amounting to a pretty good picnic spread. I bring chips and salsa ‘cause it can fit in my backpack, and we are taking the tandem bike on a beach path to get there. $7.50

10:00 p.m.

We bike home from the beach and I am ready for bed! Lame, I know, but I am sort of a grandma and it is way past my bedtime! Thanks for following along with me on my day of spending!

Joy sparked 5 donations to a classroom in need of arts supplies through DonorsChoose today, helping push us closer to the 100% funded mark for this project!

Inspired members have impacted over 23,000 lives by funding music and arts education across the country – for free, with a swipe of a card.
